Three Kings takes its name from the volcanic cones that once stood here, of which Big King is the main surviving one, now a reserve above the suburb. Mount Eden Road runs past the shopping centre, and the large former quarry next to it has been redeveloped into new housing. It sits between Mount Eden, Mount Roskill and Royal Oak, and its roofs span nearly a century of Auckland building.
